Minwax® Welcomes This Old House®

The Minwax® manufacturing site in Flora, IL was the scene for a segment of the PBS TV series This Old House®. Norm Abram and the crew of This Old House® joined master craftsman Bruce Johnson for the taping and a special tour of the Flora plant.

Norm Abram and the This Old House® crew traveled to the Illinois plant to learn how Minwax products are made. Minwax® Polyurethane is being used to seal and protect stair treads in the Concord, MA cottage that is being transformed from a barn on the show this season.

For the This Old House® segment, Bruce and Norm started off in the Minwax® quality control laboratory where Johnson explained how wood stains and finishes are created. They watched as raw materials were transported in and added to the manufacturing line and observed product being filled into containers and packed for shipping. Finally, Norm and Bruce met with Minwax employees to answer questions about the show and sign a few autographs.

The This Old House® tour of the Minwax Flora premiered on PBS Thursday, January 29, 2004. Here on Minwax.com you can go on your own virtual tour anytime!
