Most finishes come in three wood sheens: satin, semi-gloss, or gloss wood sheen. If you want a contemporary gloss look, go with a gloss wood sheen. A satin wood sheen gives wood a hand-rubbed antiqued look. Semi-gloss is right in the middle of gloss and satin wood sheens. Each type will last as long as the other. It is always a good idea to test your wood finish before applying. If you don't add a finish to your wood, it will likely crack and dry out.
